Real Sociedad vs Athletic Club


This is the big derby in the Basque Country and it’s also an 
important game in the race for European qualification so 
the stakes are certainly high here. 


I would expect both sides to be playing European football 
next season but it does feel like Real Sociedad have a bit 
more quality overall and I can see them claiming the win.


They have looked rejuvenated by the break and have 
returned with two impressive 2-0 wins. 


They were worthy winners of both games and what will 
please Imanol is that they have managed to be a bit 
more clinical in those fixtures as they’re often a team 
that creates plenty of chances without converting them.


When you compare these two teams, there’s not much to choose 
between them in most areas of the pitch. 


Athletic are perhaps marginally stronger in goal and in 
defence while neither side has a genuinely top class 
striker who they can currently call on.


However, it’s in midfield where I feel Real Sociedad have 
a significant advantage. 


With everyone fit as should be the case here, they are able 
to operate almost as a diamond with Martin Zubimendi at 
the base and Mikel Merino, David Silva and Brais Mendez 
in more advanced roles. 


All four are high quality performers and I expect them to have 
the edge here, both in terms of winning the midfield battle 
and creating the better chances.


While Ernesto Valverde has done an excellent job since returning 
to Bilbao in the summer, I’m a little bit perplexed by his decision 
to leave Iker Muniain on the bench in both league games 
since the World Cup. 


It may not have been his best season to date, but Muniain is still 
the player who offers Athletic the most creativity and quality in 
midfield and it doesn’t seem like a coincidence that they’ve failed 
to score in their last two matches without him.


In a tough game like this, Valverde may again opt for a more
defensively minded midfield but Real Sociedad should still have 
enough quality to open up their opponents 
and potentially claim a vital win.

중요한 경기이기도 하므로 확실히 베팅이 높습니다.

브라이스 멘데스가 더 발전되어 팀의 강력한 힘이 되고 있습니다. 


4명 모두 수준 높은 선수들이며 미드필더 경쟁에서 승리하고 기회를 
창출한다는 측면에서 우위를 점할 것으로 기대하고 있습니다.


에르네스토 발베르데가 빌바오로 돌아와 훌륭한 코치를 하고 있지만, 
월드컵 이후 두 리그 경기에서 이케르 무니아인을 벤치에 남겨두기로 한 
그의 결정에 약간 당혹스럽습니다. 


지금까지 그의 최고의 시즌은 아니었지만 무니아인은 여전히 빌바오의
미드필드에서 가장 창의있는 플레이를 하는 선수이며, 그가 없는 지난 
두 경기에서 득점에 실패한 것은 우연이 아닌 것 같습니다. 


이와 같은 힘든 경기에서 발베르데는 다시 수비적인 미드필더를 
선택할 수 있지만, 소시에다드는 여전히 승리를 거둘 수 있는 
충분한 자질을 가지고 있어야 합니다.
