Getafe vs Real Betis


This is a pressure game for Getafe boss Quique Sanchez Flores. 


Their fanbase is getting a bit frustrated with his failure to get more 
out of this team and defeat here will only increase talk of 
a potential return for Pepe Bordalas who is out of work 
and enjoyed a successful stint at the 
Coliseum Alfonso Perez between 2016 and 2021.


There’s a real risk they will slip to another loss here too. 


Unlike last season, Getafe haven’t made their home ground 
any kind of fortress and only two teams in LaLiga have collected 
less than their tally of 9 home points this term. 


Their early seasons efforts to be more expansive quickly fell apart 
and they’ve returned to their more conservative ways 
but it hasn’t been that convincing.


The injury to midfielder Maura Arambarri has been one reason 
for their struggles. 


He is their best holding midfield player but has been restricted 
to only six appearances and will be missing again here. 


Nemanja Masksimovic has also struggled for form and is out of the 
team and the result is Getafe aren’t quite as physical or 
difficult to play against as they were during the Bordalas years 
and throughout the second half of last season.


Real Betis haven’t been at their best since the World Cup either 
but they’ve had a free midweek after their cup exit which will 
have helped them prepare for this game and they should have 
all their key men available which wasn’t the case 
last weekend in the defeat at Espanyol.


Nabil Fekir is expected to be fit which will both add to their goal 
threat and improve the supply to lone striker Borja Iglesias. 


Betis have that little bit of extra quality in the final third and 
much more of a wide threat than Getafe who are dependent 
on their wing-backs for width but neither Juan Iglesias nor 
Damian Suarez have been particularly effective 
going forwards this season.


As a result, I can see Betis just edging this but it is likely to be 
a close game as most matches involving Getafe are.
