Valencia vs Osasuna
Despite their recent home win over Real Sociedad, Valencia
still come into this weekend one place off the bottom and
in deep relegation danger.
Osasuna almost always compete well so this won’t be
an easy game for the hosts and they may struggle
to get the win they badly need.
While they were away to leaders Barcelona last weekend,
Valencia may reflect on an opportunity missed given
their opponents were missing a host of key players and
also had to play with 10 men for much of the Second Half.
We didn’t really see the positive reaction you might
have expected after their vital win in the first home
match of Ruben Baraja’s reign.
The good news for Valencia is that Mestalla was loud and
supportive in that game and that should be the case for
the remainder of the season, at least during the 90 minutes,
although there are still regular chants in protest at the owners.
That may help Valencia’s players in the run-in and they are
boosted here with key man Jose Gaya likely to be fit again to start.
However they aren’t carrying much of a goal threat right now with
Edinson Cavani still an injury doubt and winger Samuel Lino is perhaps
the man most likely to open up this organised Osasuna defence.
With the exception of their recent 3-2 win at Sevilla, Osasuna
haven’t been scoring freely either. They’ve failed to score in
4 of their last 6 league outings, the most recent of which was
a drab 0-0 draw against Celta Vigo where once again they looked
short on imagination and creativity in the final third.
This should be fairly tight too with Valencia looking a little bit
more conservative if anything since the change in coach while
Osasuna never throw too much caution to the wind.
The visitors will probably still see a draw as a good result here,
despite Valencia’s problems.
