It’s unlikely either will get anywhere near that number here,
but we should still see a fair amount of goalmouth action.
The deciding factor could well prove to be Girona’s defensive weakness.
Despite good form overall, the Catalan side have still conceded twice
or more in each of their last 4 matches.
They are an attack-minded side with full-backs who like to push forward
but it does leave them vulnerable defensively and they still feel a bit
light in central defence with doubts over whether Juanpe or
David Lopez should start alongside Santi Bueno.
With Atletico Madrid looking convincing in the final third for almost
the first time this season last weekend, you have to fear a bit for
Girona’s defence here.
Diego Simeone has finally opted to start Memphis Depay alongside
Antoine Griezmann in attack and it really worked out against Sevilla
with the Dutchman scoring twice.
Between them, they ought to ask plenty of questions
of the Girona defence in this game.
Overall, Atletico Madrid are experiencing
their best run of the season so far.
Not every performance has been convincing but it does feel like a
bit of momentum is building for them now and they’ve taken
10 points from their last 4 games, some of which were tough fixtures.
There are still doubts about the balance of their midfield and
while I’d expect Girona to score at some point in this game,
Griezmann and Depay should provide that extra bit of quality
in attack which might be enough to settle this in Atleti’s favour.
