Almeria vs Cadiz
This is an Andalusian derby and a really important game
in terms of the relegation battle with both sides hoping to put
three points on the board before the international break.
These are certainly two of the favourites to join Elche in dropping
down to the Segunda Division but I expect Almeria to have
the edge here with home advantage.
This is precisely the kind of game they have been winning.
Almeria have won all five of their home games against sides
currently in the bottom half of the division and those fixtures
account for 60% of their points.
With so little coming away from home, they are going to have
to keep winning these relegation showdowns
at the Power Horse Stadium if they are going to beat the drop.
They’ve lost back-to-back games since beating Barcelona
and are missing striker El Bilal Toure here who has been
an important player this season.
However they do have impressive depth in the forward positions
with the likes of Largie Ramazani, Luis Suarez and Leo Baptistao
all capable of causing problems for this Cadiz defence.
That’s especially true given the away team’s selection issues.
A bad-tempered end to their game against Getafe last time out
means they have three players suspended here and they are all
in the defensive part of the pitch.
Iza Carcelen and Fali miss out meaning they’ll have to change
two members of the back four and perhaps most significantly
goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma begins a four game ban.
Ledesma has been really important for them and hasn’t missed
a single league game since the 2020/21 season
so this is a real test for back-up keeper David Gil
who has had to wait patiently for his chance.
I fear that kind of disruption could have a really negative impact
on Cadiz, particularly up against a relatively free-scoring
Almeria side and they may struggle to get anything from this match.
