Getafe vs Barcelona
Barcelona were involved in an uneventful 0-0 draw
against Girona last weekend but Real Madrid’s surprise slip-up
meant they still extended their lead at the top.
It is now merely a question of when Barcelona will clinch
this league title and that can lead to complacency,
but defensively at least, there have been no signs of
that so far from Xavi’s team in LaLiga.
While Getafe do have quite a strong strike duo of Enes Unal
and Borja Mayoral, I can’t see them getting enough chances here
to seriously cause problems for the league leaders.
That’s partly because of how strong Barcelona have been
in defence with just 9 conceded in 28 matches,
putting them on course for a record breaking campaign
in terms of keeping goals out.
However it’s also related to Getafe’s tendency to play
very defensively against the top sides with their coach
Quique Sánchez Flores admitting he is reluctant to take risks
in such fixtures earlier in the season.
Getafe have failed to score in 4 of their 5 home games
against current top six opposition so far this term and it would
be no surprise if we saw a repeat here.
Barcelona are still not fully firing in the final third though
and they’re set to again be without Pedri and Ousmane Dembele
here, robbing them of a bit of invention and in Dembele’s case,
raw pace to attack this Getafe defence.
We probably shouldn’t expect the visitors to create lots
of chances in this game as a result,
but they should still have enough quality to see off a Getafe side
that put in their worst performance in recent months last weekend
against Real Sociedad.
