Osasuna vs Real Sociedad
Osasuna and Real Sociedad both got good away results
in midweek and both are targeting European qualification
so we should see a competitive derby match and it’s likely
to be an even game.
Jagoba Arrasate decided to leave a large number of regular starters
out of the trip to Cadiz on Tuesday, but as was the case
when he did likewise recently at Sevilla,
Osasuna still managed to win the game.
That’s testament to the depth of a squad which has few star players
but genuine competition across the pitch.
It wasn’t all good news though as two of their best players,
David Garcia and Abde Ez,
came on in the Second Half and managed to rule themselves
out of this match for different reasons.
Garcia, Osasuna’s most convincing centre-back,
suffered a broken nose, meanwhile Abde Ez was sent off late
on ensuring he is now suspended.
With top scorer Chimy Garcia also an injury doubt,
Osasuna won’t simply be able to revert to their best eleven here,
but I’d still expect them to be very competitive.
Real Sociedad picked up a useful point away at top four rivals
Real Betis on Tuesday and while they’ve not been brilliant in 2023,
they are in a really strong position to go on and clinch
Champions League qualification.
While not to the extent of Osasuna, Imanol also opted for a bit
of rotation in their last match with David Silva and Mikel Merino
rested and having some fresh legs to bring into midfield
will be important against this Osasuna side.
While they have more talented players on the ball,
we’ve not seen enough from Real Sociedad in recent months
to suggest they’ll come here and take total control of this game.
Perhaps aware of their strong league position,
Imanol has also been a bit more cautious with his team’s approach
in recent weeks and with four of their final six games at home,
he may be happy enough to take a draw from this game too.
