Getafe vs Celta Vigo
This is a potentially season-defining game for Getafe who are back under
the management of Jose Bordalas after parting company with
Quique Sanchez Flores.
Bordalas is a popular appointment with the fans after he successfully
led them from the bottom of the Segunda Division to European football
during his first spell in charge between 2016 and 2021.
He has just six games left to get it right this time around though,
otherwise Getafe will be heading for the second tier once more.
While coaches don’t always have success when they return to former
clubs, this feels like the best appointment Getafe could have made.
The profile of the squad hasn’t drastically changed since when Bordalas
was last here so he will already know many of the players.
His teams are always solid defensively and tend to favour a
direct style of football.
He will need to tweak things slightly as Getafe no longer have an
outright targetman who they can feed lots of long balls and
crosses to, but Enes Unal is relatively strong in the air
and could play that role.
It feels like a good time for Getafe to be up against Celta Vigo.
The Galicians have endured a strange season, being one of the worst
teams in LaLiga before the World Cup before a brilliant run up until
the last international break with them comfortably ranking in the top
four over that specific period.
They took just 5 points from their 6 games in April though with
a major drop-off in form.
It now seems likely they will coast towards the end of the season
without much to play for and they may struggle to match
the desire and work-rate of Getafe here with the home team
fighting for survival and likely to be backed by a noisier
crowd than normal with their former boss returning.
Celta do have their two star players, Iago Aspas and Gabri Veiga, to
reintroduce into the starting eleven after
they were rested at the weekend.
However neither has scored since the March international break and
they may not get many opportunities here with Getafe likely to
be better defensively under their returning boss.
