This is the big game at the bottom of LaLiga this weekend and the
stakes couldn’t be much higher for Cadiz and Real Valladolid who
are locked on 35 points in 16th and 17th places. A tense evening
is almost guaranteed and it’s hard to see either side
taking firm control of this match.
Cadiz have been hampered by considerable injury problems which
has contributed to them losing 3 of their last 4 matches.
They were closer to their best eleven last week at Mallorca but
still struggled to create many clear opportunities in a 1-0 defeat.
They should have more joy against this Real Valladolid defence
which has been the weakest in the division in recent months.
They’ve leaked 25 goals in their last 9 league outings and while
their attempt to play attacking football has been admirable,
coach Paulo Pezzolano may need to try something slightly
different after 4 straight defeats.
It has been far too open and despite having 28 attempts on goal
last weekend against Sevilla, they failed to score and only
hit the target with six of those efforts.
That excludes a very controversial moment which saw them have
a goal ruled out by the referee blowing the Half-Time whistle
when the game, which they went on to lose 3-0, was still goalless.
While January signing Cyle Larin has chipped in with
a few important goals, they still aren’t clinical enough in the final
third to really make the most of what has been a much riskier
and more creative approach under their new coach.
Whether Cadiz are good enough to capitalise on those
Valladolid defensive errors is also up for debate.
They also tried to address their goalscoring problems in January
with three new strikers arriving.
They are a bit more threatening now but Chris Ramos and
Sergi Guardiola, their likely strike pairing in this game,
have still only got 4 goals between them.
