Champions League exit followed by defeat to Valencia
in a bad-tempered league game at Mestalla.
Not for the first time this season,
Vini Junior was sadly the target of apparent racist abuse
from opposition supporters and the Brazilian was also later sent off
after lashing out at Hugo Duro as opposing players clashed
towards the end of the match.
His absence will be felt here but Los Blancos do still have the likes
of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Rodrygo and Fede Valverde to recall
to the starting eleven after they were rested on Sunday.
That kind of quality should be enough to fire Real Madrid
to three points against a Rayo Vallecano side
whose European hopes are all but over after losing
to Espanyol on the same day.
They didn’t deserve to lose that game but it’ll be tough for them
to go again just three days later in a tough fixture
given Andoni Iraola isn’t blessed with many great options
when it comes to rotating and freshening the team up.
