Real Valladolid vs Getafe
There are six teams who are fighting to avoid the final relegation place
on the last weekend and two of them meet here.
Real Valladolid are the side who are currently in 18th place and they
will be relegated to the Segunda Division if they lose,
but victory would guarantee survival.
With Getafe only needing a draw and now under the management of a
defensive coach in Jose Bordalas, it seems fairly clear what kind of
pattern we’ll see.
The expectation will be on Real Valladolid to dictate the tempo and
try to break their opponents down but that won’t be easy with
Geta looking quite convincing at the back in recent weeks.
Since Bordalas took over, they’ve conceded just 4 goals in 6 matches
and that will give the away coach confidence that his defence is good
enough to frustrate the opposition.
Any suggestion that he may be more positive also seems doubtful
given the lack of forward options he currently has with striker
Enes Unal out until deep into next season.
Last weekend his attack featured Jaime Mata who hadn’t scored
a league goal in over eighteen months and youngster Juanmi Latasa
who had never previously scored in LaLiga.
Remarkably both players did manage to score in the 2-1
win over Osasuna, although Getafe benefited from a goalkeeping
error and it’s probably unrealistic to expect any more heroics
from those two here.
Real Valladolid’s defence may not be too busy as a result of the
overall situation and they’ll take confidence from a rare clean
sheet in a hard fought goalless draw at Almeria last weekend
in any case.
However I’m not sure they will have quite enough creativity and
quality in midfield to create too many opportunities against
a cautious Getafe side and they may struggle to get more than
a draw which would only save them in the event that Almeria
lost their game against Espanyol.
