Napoli vs Atalanta 




The first game back following a week’s international break is the early
Saturday kick off that takes place between top four hopefuls 
Napoli and Atalanta.


The hosts are the side currently occupying seventh spot, which at the 
time of writing, leaves them just outside the European places.


After enduring what can only be described as a horror show of a season
that has seen the Neapolitans drop from their perch as champions 
down to as low as 10th at one point, 
things finally seem to be starting to click together ahead of the run in.


The arrival of former assistant coach and current Slovakia boss 
Francesco Calzona has been a real positive with the side yet to lose in 
league action with him in the dugout.


Before the break they became just the third team to take points away 
from Inter at San Siro thanks to a late header from 
former Nerazzuri defender Juan Jesus.


That wasn’t to be the only notable moment for the Brazilian centre half 
in the match as a run-in with veteran Inter man Francesco Acerbi has 
led to an inquest into whether or not the former Lazio man racially 
abused Jesus.


Acerbi was acquitted on Tuesday which has led to significant public 
backlash and Napoli refusing to participate in 
anti-racism campaigns this weekend.


Atalanta arrive into this one with a little less fuss and sit a place and 
two points ahead of Napoli with a game in hand.


After an excellent run of form coming into February, La Dea are in the 
midst of a fixture list from hell.


Since February 4, Gasperini’s side have faced Lazio, Milan, Inter, 
Bologna and Juventus and have certainly been made to graft for 
points in that hellacious run.


Dropping from fourth to sixth due to that run has been hard to 
take but Atalanta don’t fear anyone and despite Napoli’s recent 
resurgence, they won’t be arriving in the south with any other
intention than to pick up points.


This will be very easy on the eye that’s for sure.


Napoli should just edge it on current form.

Lazio vs Juventus 


The two most recent clubs of Maurizio Sarri go head to head in 
an Easter Saturday special as Lazio host a rather disappointing 
Juventus in the capital.


The hosts have had the international break to process a change in 
coach as the aforementioned Sarri’s replacement, 
former Juventus player and assistant coach Igor Tudor stepped 
into the hot seat.


Fresh of a rather underwhelming spell in France with Marseille, 
Croatian coach Tudor has a very respected reputation in Italy following 
his success in his last role as coach in the country in a spell at 
Hellas Verona that saw him get the best out of the likes of 
Giovanni Simeone, Gianluca Caprari and Antonin Barak, 
who have all since moved onto bigger more lucrative moves.


He will have to get to work quickly with the Biancocelesti 
who are currently in the process of rivalling Napoli for the biggest 
fall off since last year.


Currently in ninth spot, four points off Atalanta in sixth, Lazio and Tudor 
need to gel quickly if they are to salvage something of this season.


Whilst they haven’t struggled all term for consistency like their hosts, 
Juventus arrive into this one off the back of a revolting run of form.


Their early to mid season promise has gone up in smoke following 
an alarming run of form that has seen them pick up just one win 
across their last eight matches in Serie A and even that was a plucky 
last minute Daniele Rugani winner at home to Frosinone in a game in 
which they trailed.


Max Allegri won great praise for making Juve so hard to beat and 
so efficient in picking up wins early season but their run of form 
since February has seen them drop way off the pace and into third spot, 
and now a mammoth sixteen points off the summit that they once led.


This game will be cagey and low scoring if it goes true to form.


Neither will want to lose and it is hard to see either risking it 
too much to train and win it.


A close one to call.

Inter vs Empoli


Easter Monday’s last game sees runaway leaders 
Inter take on lowly Empoli.


The international break came at perhaps the right time for 
Simone Inzaghi’s rather jaded looking Nerazzuri team 
who in the week prior were dumped out of the Champions League in 
cruel circumstances via a defeat on penalties to 
Atletico Madrid before then dropping points at home to Napoli late on.


Not only were Inter hugely frustrated by the draw to Napoli, 
they then also found themselves embroiled in a racism row between 
their defender Francesco Acerbi and Napoli’s Juan Jesus.


Veteran Acerbi was sent home from Italy camp following allegations of 
him using a racial slur and 
he has had to be subjected to a court hearing.


A lack of evidence has seen the case thrown out but the stock of 
the player has been harmed significantly following the incident.


Inter have been close to faultless this year but 
a win in this game is important.


They must not sleepwalk to the season’s end and let the past fortnight 
throw them off course in their bid to be the emphatic champions 
that their wonderful performances deserve.


Empoli arrive at San Siro with a very heavy underdogs tag.


Despite it taking a wonderful Federico DiMarco half volley to separate 
these two in the reverse fixture, Davide Nicola’s team won’t 
exactly be licking their lips at the prospect of having to
tussle with a team scorned.


An excellent start to life under Nicola saw Empoli start to pull away 
from the drop zone but a couple of clumsy results of 
late has seen them drop back into danger.


With so many teams down there scrapping for their lives and 
so much at stake with barely any points separating the teams, 
any points are vital for Empoli here.


Can they pick something up against the champions elect? 


Highly doubtful.


Prediction: Inter 2-0 Empoli

Fiorentina vs Milan 


Stefano Pioli returns to the side he coached between 2017 and 2019 
as he brings his second placed Milan side to Florence to face Fiorentina.


Held in high regard by the fans of La Viola for his decorum in dealing 
with the sudden and tragic loss of Davide Astori, 
there will always be a special relationship between Pioli and Fiorentina 
despite his inability to get the side up into Europe.


For him to get the Milan job off the back of that spell in Florence 
but it’s hard to argue with the job he has done so far.


A first Scudetto in a decade, a Champions semi final run and to 
even be sat in second place currently, Pioli has worked wonders at 
a club that was in complete disarray under Marco Giampaolo.


Fiorentina failed under Pioli’s replacements Vincenzo Montella, 
Beppe Iachini (twice) and Cesare Prandelli before finally 
trusting a young upcoming coach in Vincenzo Italiano.


The man who guided Spezia to a historic promotion to Serie A 
has La Viola playing in Europe again and found himself unlucky 
not to find silverware as they lost out to West Ham in the final of the 
Conference League last term.


Both managers find themselves with credit in the bank but 
also have question marks over their longevity and ability to be 
consistent enough to take their teams up another level.


One thing they have been able to do is produce high quality 
football and that promises well for the game between the 
two on Easter Saturday.


The late kick off promises goals and fun under the lights.


La Viola will be up for this but Milan need to keep the pressure 
on the top to avoid the humiliation of potentially having to 
give Inter a guard of honour on their home turf 
when they meet next month.


This will be close.


Prediction: Fiorentina 2-2 Milan

Lecce vs Roma 


Lecce certainly had a controversial end to proceedings prior to the
international break.


A defeat in a crunch game at home to fellow strugglers Verona on the 
10th March turned into an all out brawl that saw their manager 
Roberto D’Aversa inexplicably headbutt 
opposition striker Thomas Henry.


The former Parma manager was immediately suspended and then 
sacked the following morning.


A promising start to the season has faded into anarchy 
but there are some hopes that the minnows can pull themselves to 
Serie A safety.


Arriving as D’Aversa’s replacement is the vastly experienced 
Luca Gotti who managed to sneak a win over bottom club 
Salernitana in his first match.


Hosting Roma will be a far trickier prospect as the arrival of Daniele 
De Rossi has sparked life into Roma that has seen them pick up 
four wins from their last five and suffer just the one defeat since 
his appointment.


The players seem to be relishing life under the former gladiatore 
with players seemingly freed of the shackles of their more 
pragmatic former coach.


Whilst Paulo Dybala looks doubtful to be fit for this one, 
Romelu Lukaku should be able to start and his link up 
partnership with Lorenzo Pellegrini is continuing to blossom.


The uncertainty over Dybala’s fitness may even mean a chance
for January addition Tomasso Baldanzi who will be aiming to 
gain more game time in his bid to make the Euro squad.


Lecce will be brave and will try to create a tough home 
atmosphere but it’ll be tough to stop the Roma freight train.


Prediction: Lecce 0-2 Roma

Bologna vs Salernitana 


You’d definitely have to be the most optimistic of Bologna fans 
if you genuinely believed they’d be fourth at 
this stage of the season back in August.


Former Barcelona and Inter midfielder Thiago Motta has transformed 
the Gialloblu into European contenders after spending years 
fumbling around the mid to lower end of the Serie A table.


The most impressive thing is the fact that he’s also done 
this without breaking the bank at all and has managed to 
improve players no end.


Players such as Riccardo Calafiori, Lewis Ferguson and Joshua Zirkzee 
have had breakout seasons and shown that a team 
that combines and works together as a unit can be greater than 
the sum of its parts.


One team who have no idea how to do that is Salernitana.


It has been a season of struggle from Matchday 1 for Salernitana 
who are without a doubt going to 
be playing Serie B football next season.


Since their promotion in 2021, the Salerno based outfit have been 
on a trajectory of gradual improvement as they managed to
stay up first year then establish themselves fairly comfortably 
last year whilst also investing in the squad.


This year has been a complete disaster though and 
has undone all that hard work.


Now on their fourth manager of the season, 
it’d take a miracle to save them.


Expect them to fall victim here to Bologna’s outstanding home form.

Torino vs Monza


The battle for 10th spot takes place this weekend as Torino host Monza.


If you assume that Salernitana, despite being way adrift, 
can mathematically stay up, there’s only really three teams at 
this stage of the season who have little to nothing to play for.


Two of those are Torino and Monza.


Neither will go down and both would need to go on an unassailable 
run of form to trouble the European places.


That being said, they’ve both had good seasons and both have 
earned praise at times for trying to play a good brand of football and 
for their savvy recruitment.


Torino have climbed back to their more natural habitat after 
a few years of struggle.


The departure of Andrea Belotti was hard to take for fans 
but the team haven’t really missed him.


The arrival of Duvàn Zapata this past summer has helped fill that 
void and the Colombian has rolled back the years in many respects 
and has certainly helped add a real focal point to a solid and 
hard working side.


Rafaelle Palladino’s Monza have proven themselves to be 
a match for anyone and their squad that is built on a strong Italian 
core with Lombardian links.


Skippered by ex-Milan and Atalanta midfielder Matteo Pessina and 
boasting ex-Inter players such as Roberto Gagliardini and 
Danilo D’Ambrosio, the team has strong links to bigger clubs 
locally which has helped them build a competitive side in 
just their second season at this level.


This is a game that could produce anything.


Neither has anything to lose yet we might see a respectful 
encounter between two well set sides.


A draw looks likely.

Cagliari vs Verona 


At the moment, there seems to be at least one clash per 
weekend between teams battling at the wrong end of the table.


This week sees the match up of Cagliari and Verona 
who are only separated by goal difference.


Both sides have spent an alarmingly long time in the drop zone 
itself throughout the season and it is the visitors 
who perhaps have more to fear heading into this one.


Marco Baroni’s Verona have spent the best part of two seasons 
fighting to stay in the league after they found themselves having to 
rely on a relegation play off win over Spezia to keep them up last year.


Baroni returned to his former side that he played at during 
his playing career last summer and despite a good start has 
struggled to keep his side above water.


Losing the likes of Davide Faraoni, Cyril Ngonge and Josh Doig 
in the January window hasn’t made things easy 
but for now they remain above the bottom three.


A win in Sardinia over Cagliari won’t come easy for 
Verona as the islanders have started to build a mini fortress here.


Claudio Ranieri’s team have been tepid in front of goal and 
been absolutely diabolical at times away from home but 
with the passion and fighting spirit of their home support behind them, 
they look a different side.


Their ability to grind out late points in games is helping them in 
their bid to avoid an immediate return to Serie B.


The hosts should be targeting this as a game they can win 
and they should just about have enough.


It’ll be close mind as Verona have yet to be truly hammered 
this term despite their struggles.

Sassuolo vs Udinese 


Another basement battle sees second from bottom Sassuolo 
take on 14th spot Udinese who are currently just three points 
above the drop themselves.


Sassuolo’s season has been an absolute horror show.


The progress made over the past near decade has almost 
evaporated overnight as the Mapei Stadium based outfit finally 
appear to have sold off too many players, 
leaving them with a squad incapable of putting together a team 
that can avoid being embroiled in a relegation fight.


Promising young coach Alessio Dionisi seemed to run out of ideas and 
became the first manager sacked by the Neroverdi in over five years.


In his place has arrived perennial stop gap coach Davide Ballardini who 
has lost two of his first three so far but rather encouragingly has 
seemed to stop the alarming rate of which they were conceding goals.


Without talismanic figure Domenico Berardi, the team seem toothless 
but still have that tag of being ‘too good to go down.

’
Their opponents Udinese are quite simply 
the most bizarre club in all of Serie A.


Seemingly sleepwalking around the league with a massive rotation of 
players every summer, they just about squeeze out enough 
points to stay out of trouble.


Their ridiculous wins over Milan, Juventus and 
now Lazio have kept them alive.


Sassuolo need the points more but this points to Udinese pulling off 
one of their silly little party tricks and causing a nuisance of themselves 
before then going on a winless run.

유망한 젊은 감독 알레시오 디오니시는 아이디어가 바닥나는 것처럼 보였고,
사수올로에서 5년 넘게 해고되지 않은 첫 번째 감독이 되었습니다.


그 자리에 있던 다비데 발라르디니는 지금까지 
처음 세 경기 중 두 경기를 졌지만, 
매우 기쁘게도 골을 많이 내주던 속도가 멈춘 것처럼 보입니다.


탈리스만 같은 중요한 인물 도메니코 베라르디 없이 팀은 무기로 보이지만 
여전히 하락하기에는 '너무 좋은 팀'이라는 태그가 있습니다.


그들의 상대인 우디네세는 간단히 말해서 
세리에A에서 가장 이상한 클럽입니다.


매 해 여름 마다 대규모로 선수를 교체하며 리그 주위를 거닐고, 
그들은 겨우 충분한 점을 빼앗아 어려움을 피합니다.

Genoa vs Frosinone 


Genoa have been a fun addition to Serie A this year.


After bouncing back to Italy’s big time at the first time of asking, 
Alberto Gilardino’s team have been great to watch and 
have gifted us some of the league’s most underrated players.


Breakout years have been had by Inter linked attackers 
Albert Gudmundsson and Mateo Retegui whilst the enigmatic 
Ruslan Malinovsky has been a welcomed return to the league 
after a brief stint in France with Marseille.


The only team who finished above them last year in Serie B were 
Frosinone and early on it appeared that their title heroics last term 
had given them the confidence to believe that they could 
compete in the top flight this time.


All of The Canaries’ previous stints in the top league have ended 
in immediate relegation and this season now looks like it 
could well head the same way after their early promise has vanished.


Built on young loanees from big clubs such as the impressive 
Matias Soulé, Caleb Okoli and Kaio Jorge amongst others, 
the youthful exuberance and enthusiasm has come at a cost as 
the team simply cannot find a way of playing that makes 
them hard to break down for all their lovely intricate passing play.


They massively need a result here but the likes of Inter and
Juventus couldn’t escape Genoa with all three points so it would be 
unfair to expect Frosinone to manage the tall order.


Sadly, it looks to be another race run too far by 
Eusebio Di Francesco’s team here.

예전의 모든 팀이 즉각적인 강등으로 끝나왔으며, 
이 시즌은 초기의 약속이 사라진 후 마찬가지로 그럴 것으로 보입니다.


인상적인 마티아스 소울레, 칼렙 오콜리, 카이우 조르즈 등의 
대형 클럽에서 대여한 젊은 선수들로 구성된 팀은 젊은 풍족함과 열정으로 
세워졌지만, 모든 아름다운 복잡한 패스 플레이에도 불구하고 
상대팀을 상대로 깨어질 만큼 탄탄한 수비 방법을 찾을 수 없습니다.


이곳에서 절실히 승점이 필요하지만, 인테르와 유벤투스 같은 팀조차 
제노아에게 세 점을 빼앗을 수 없었으므로 
프로시노네가 높은 목표를 이룰 것을 기대하는 것은 불공평할 것입니다.


에우세비오 디 프란체스코 감독의 팀이 여기서 
또 다른 경주를 너무 멀리 달린 것처럼 보입니다.
