And so it all comes down to this. 


Arsenal have lasted the pace this time, following end 
of season collapses in the previous two campaigns, 
and taken the title race down to the wire.


For all at the Emirates, there will be one eye on 
what is happening in front of them but another on the Etihad.


Because as well as Arsenal have done, 
their title hopes are not in their hands.


They need to beat Everton 
but hope Manchester City drop points too in order 
to win their first Premier League title since 2004. 


Arsenal will be strongly expected to do their bit. 


For starters they are finishing the season in exceptional form 
with five straight wins going into the final day, 
four of them with clean sheets too.


And seasons tend to end only one way for Arsenal.


They have won their final game of the season on 22 occasions, 
more than any other Premier League side. 


They have also won their last 12 final fixtures in a row. 


Everton have been safe for a while now so have little to play for.


That should also work in Arsenal’s favour.


Regardless of how the final day 
unfolds this has been an exceptional league campaign 
and title pursuit put together by Mikel Arteta’s side.


Their win at Manchester United 
which took the title race to the final day was their 27th this season,
a new club record.


Defensively they have been outstanding, 
keeping by far the most clean sheets with 18.


Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard have been outstanding 
in midfield, with Jorginho a valuable contributor too.


They are the second top scorers 
with the goals being spread around, 
Bukayo Saka (16), Leandro Trossard and 
Kai Havertz (both 12) leading the way. 


They could not have done much more
to end their 20-year wait for a title.


And unlike the two previous seasons 
when they have wilted the pressure 
during the run-in the same cannot be said this season.


Yes, they lost at home to Aston Villa but it is just one game. 


That can happen. 


And it is their only league defeat in 2024. 


If Arsenal fall short it will be simply 
because they are up against a juggernaut in Manchester City 
who do not even allow you to make one small slip up.

as if the need to qualify for Europe has sharpened minds. 


Four wins and a draw since being battered 5-0 at Arsenal, 
coupled with Tottenham’s collapse, 
has seen the gap between Chelsea and 
Spurs shrink to three points going 
into the last game of the season.


They are the two clubs 
that will now be battling out for fifth spot
and a place in the Europa League.


Nothing to shout about when set 
against the achievements of Chelsea teams from the last 20 years.


But in the context of this new group, 
the difficulties they have encountered this season and 
where they have been at points this season 
- as low as 14th in the early weeks 
- it will be a significant achievement.


For manager Mauricio Pochettino, 
who will be without the suspended Reece James 
and injured Mykhailo Mudryk, it might well be crucial too ahead 
of the club’s season review.


European football was one of their key requirements. 


The final day will help determine 
which competition they end up in. 


Beat Bournemouth and a Spurs defeat 
at Sheffield United will see Chelsea finish and 
fifth qualify for the Europa League.


If they are pipped by Spurs and finish sixth 
they will have to wait see who wins the FA Cup final 
before finding out if they will be in the Europa League 
or UEFA Conference League. 


A Manchester City win will see 
whoever ends sixth land a Europa League place. 


A Manchester United win and 
sixth will mean the Conference League. 


For Bournemouth this a free hit
after their brilliant season under Andoni Iraola. 


They were safe a long time ago and 
have since gone on to set 
a new club Premier League points record. 


Iraola fully deserves the new two-year contract 
he signed this week.

but the easiest thing to focus on will just be winning the game.


They are in a good habit of doing so. 


The win at Spurs was their eighth in a row in the league. 


They have beaten West Ham the last seven times 
they have visited the Etihad.


There are numerous positive omens for City.


The previous nine times that the title race has been decided 
on the final day, the team starting the day first 
have gone on to lift the trophy.


Also, City have been here before against QPR in 2012 and 
Aston Villa in 2022. 


Last day victory was needed and they got there in the end, 
albeit after a rollercoaster of emotions on both occasions.


So where is the hope for Arsenal?


City have a couple of injuries following the Spurs win.


Kevin De Bruyne was forced off with an Achilles problem 
but is optimistic of being fit to face West Ham 
in what will be David Moyes final game in charge.


Goalkeeper Ederson will not be fit after suffering a facial injury 
in a challenge from Cristian Romero.


As displayed again at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, 
his replacement Stefan Ortega is not exactly a downgrade.


Thanks to his heroics
- not least the one-on-one save from Heung-min Son
- City are on the brink of the title.


It will be a major surprise 
if they do not finish the job against West Ham.

The departing Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial 
and Victor Lindelof have all been back in training ahead 
of the trip to Brighton who themselves will be without 
a key player in captain Lewis Dunk 
following his half-time withdrawal in Wednesday’s 2-1 home 
defeat to Chelsea due to a knee problem.

Only Manchester City have been in better recent form 
than Oliver Glasner’s impressive side in the last six games 
with Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateta all shining. 


Mateta is hoping to score
for the seventh home game running against Villa. 


Not only would Palace’s form have presented an obstacle 
but so too would Villa’s injury pile-up. 


Nicolo Zaniolo has suffered a foot injury 
which will rule him out of the Euros while Matty Cash, 
Youri Tielemans, Jacob Ramsey and 
Morgan Rogers will also miss the trip to Selhurst Park. 


At least now Unai Emery can afford to face Palace 
with a depleted squad with their Champions League spot secure.

on his Liverpool reign and there will not be too many dry eyes in sight. 


There will be no title to send him off into the sunset 
with but there will be plenty of goodwill. 


And most likely a victory too. 


Liverpool have won their last eight final day home games 
and are unbeaten in 16 such matches. 


Wolves, who hope to have winger Pedro Neto available again, 
have won just one of nine final day Premier League games, 
a win rate of 11 per cent and the lowest figure 
of the league’s current sides. 


They have had a difficult end to the season, 
winning just one of their last 10 games 
but that should not detract from the excellent work 
Gary O’Neil has done to keep Wolves up. 


Prediction - Liverpool win

see Nottingham Forest lose at Burnley and 
there also be a 12-goal swing in Luton’s favour. 


Highly unlikely.


It would not be the biggest surprise 
if they at least get a positive result against Fulham 
as they need to while the Cottagers have been able 
to put their feet up for a while. 


Though it will be a miracle 
if it is a big enough one to help them preserve 
their Premier League status.
