Verona vs Inter

Verona enter Matchday 38 knowing that they will definitely be

playing Serie A football again next season.

After a season of struggle that has seen them well and truly in

the middle of the most hectic relegation battle in recent memory,

Marco Baroni has managed to pull his team to safety meaning

that the Bentegodi will surely

be a place full of party atmosphere on Sunday.

Not only have they had to battle against as many as six other teams

fighting the same battle, they’ve had to do it following a rather hefty

and surprising fire sale that took place in January.

Following worries about the financial stability of the club,

players such as Josh Doig, David Faraoni, Milan Djuric and

Cyril Ngonge were all cashed in on in favour of bringing in

young and inexperienced replacements.

At this point, it looked like the club were almost building for

a potential drop but the way in which the young replacements

have bonded together has made

the decision to bring them in a masterstroke.

The likes of Tijjani Noslin and Michael Folorunsho have been

excellent in the run in and credit must go to their coach to

revive a side that at one point looked destined for the second tier.

Inter will be more than happy to take part in party celebrations in

their final away trip of the campaign as in all honesty,

they’ve been done for weeks.

Following their victory over their rivals Milan late last month,

Simone Inzaghi’s team have been in celebration mode as with

their league title secured, they’ve had little to worry about.

Rotation has been the name of the game with almost all of

the squad seeing some game time as key players such as

Hakan Calhanoglu, Federico Acerbi and even Lautaro Martinez have

been well looked after as a reward for

their starting roles in Inter’s title win.

If you’re lucky enough to have a ticket for this game then

it’s sure to be a lot of fun.

Both sides have already achieved their goal so expect

neither to be too conservative about the result.

Inter will want to finish with a win and an impressive haul of 96 points.

Expect them to win this.

Prediction: Verona 1-3 Inter

Frosinone vs Udinese

Games don’t come much bigger than this.

Whilst league deciders are important as are cup finals,

one could argue that a relegation play off has perhaps more

disastrous circumstances for the side that falls short.

Whilst the loser of this shoot out could actually stay up

should Empoli lose against Roma, neither will want to

take things for granted.

Frosinone, rather shockingly, won their first away

game of the season last weekend

when they won at Monza and wow did they need it.

Defeat would have seen them sat in the last relegation place,

a point adrift, and in need of a big win in this one

if they were to drag themselves to safety.

Frosinone, despite their struggles, have actually been

quite a welcomed addition to Serie A this year.

Last season’s second division champions have tried to be brave in

every single game they’ve played in and their expansive style has

won them plaudits.

Their use of the loan market to bring in the likes of Walid Cheddira,

Matias Soulé and Marco Brescianini amongst others has been

effective as even though they’ve had to endure struggle,

experience of top flight football has been added to

the CVs of these men who will go back to their clubs far richer for it.

Udinese haven’t been quite as inspiring and in all honesty,

they are almost prolonging the inevitable by sticking around

the top flight’s drop zone year on year.

The side from Friuli have enjoyed success in the past under

the likes of Luciano Spalletti and Francesco Guidolin in the days

that Antonio Di Natale and Alexis Sanchez, amongst others,

wore black and white but ultimately the club has taken a

backwards step since the Pozzo family

who own the club acquired Watford and Granada.

The money spent on these two clubs has largely proved more

lucrative due to the clout that the Premier League brings,

meaning that Udinese are simply treading water.

They have to hope that they can escape with a point at least from

this one and hope Roma do them a favour.

One thing that stands them in good stead is the fact

that despite the fact they haven’t been able to win many games

this year, they have in fact beaten the likes of Milan,

Juventus, Lazio and Bologna.

This is going to be a nailbiter.

Prediction: Frosinone 2-2 Udinese

포조 가족이 구단을 인수하고

왓포드와 그라나다를 소유한 이후 클럽은 후퇴했습니다.

프리미어리그의 영향력 덕분에 이 두 클럽에 투자한 돈은

더 많은 수익을 올렸으며,

우디네세는 그저 현 상태를 유지하고 있는 셈입니다.

우디네세는 이 경기에서 최소한 한 점이라도 얻고

로마가 그들을 도와주길 바랄 수밖에 없습니다.

그나마 다행인 것은 비록 올해 많은 경기를 이기지 못했지만,

AC밀란, 유벤투스, 라치오, 볼로냐 등을 상대로

승리를 거둔 적이 있다는 점입니다.

이 경기는 손에 땀을 쥐게 할 것입니다.

결과 예측: 2-2 무승부

Empoli vs Roma

Empoli have the rather tough assignment of having to make

sure they beat Daniele De Rossi’s Roma if

they are to survive in Serie A for another year.

It has certainly been a strange campaign for Gli Azzurri

who have dispensed with two managers and have struggled to

find any real consistency at all.

Last season’s 14th place finish saw the team finish comfortably

clear of the drop zone which inadvertently resulted in

expectations rising and Paolo Zanetti soon paid the price as

this season started badly.

A horrible 7-0 defeat in the reverse fixture against Roma saw

Zanetti go and his replacement Aurelio Andreazzoli,

in his third stint at the club, couldn’t get a tune out of the side

either so in came relegation survival expert Davide Nicola.

Things started so well as a run of positive results saw

the team pull clear of trouble and much of Italy was

once again heralding Nicola as a saviour and

it looked as if he was going to repeat his heroics

that he had done when at Crotone and Salernitana in

which he inherited sides in difficulty and dragged them to safety.

However, a run of just two wins out of their last eleven

matches has seen the side plummet back towards

the drop zone and into trouble.

Facing a side who beat them so heavily in their last meeting

can’t be an easy psychological battle either.

What makes matters worse is that Roma have been better

under Daniele De Rossi than they were

when they were coached by José Mourinho during the last meeting.

Whilst a top five finish is now impossible,

a place in Europe next year is guaranteed for the Romans and

at one stage that didn’t look to be a possibility.

Since the return to the club of ‘Capitano Futura,’ a feel good

factor has been installed in the place and as much as

the fans did pay homage to the departing Mourinho,

having one of their own sons as coach has resulted in

a revitalised unity amongst the team and its fans.

Now playing with more freedom, the team have played

some excellent and expansive football

which doesn’t bode well for Empoli.

Can Nicola pull off another miracle or will Roma crush

the Tuscan side’s dreams? Tough to call.

Prediction: Empoli 2-2 Roma

상위 5위 진입은 불가능하지만,

로마는 내년 유럽 대회 진출을 확정지었습니다.

한때 불가능해 보였던 일이었습니다.

‘캡틴 푸투라’가 돌아온 이후,

구단에는 긍정적인 분위기가 형성되었고,

팬들은 떠나는 무리뉴 감독에게 경의를 표했지만,

구단의 아들 중 한 명이 감독이 되면서

팀과 팬들 사이의 결속력이 강화되었습니다.

이제 더 자유롭게 경기를 펼치며,

훌륭하고 넓은 경기 스타일을 보여주는 로마는

엠폴리에게 좋지 않은 징조입니다.

니콜라 감독이 또 다른 기적을 일으킬 수 있을까요,

아니면 로마가 토스카나 팀의 꿈을 무너뜨릴까요?

Lazio vs Sassuolo

Lazio are finishing strong under their relatively new coach Igor Tudor.

Another impressive performance last time out away to

the champions Inter at San Siro saw

the side rather unfortunate to leave with just a point.

Since former Juventus and Croatia midfielder Tudor took

the reins from the rather irate Maurizio Sarri,

the Biancocelesti have begun to climb the league and know

that a win at home to the essentially relegated Sassuolo

will guarantee them a slot in the Europa League for next season.

Whilst it’s not the Champions League and it won’t equal

their second place finish from last year, it is a lot better

than the mid table finish that they looked set for before

the arrival of Tudor.

One team that would kill for a spot in mid table is Sassuolo

who have had a truly appalling campaign.

A team used to mid table and even higher on occasions

have never got going at all and last weekend’s loss to

fellow strugglers Cagliari has left the Neroverdi staring down

the end of the barrel and looking at the end of their eleven year

stop in Italy’s top division.

The minnows from Emilia Romagna have more than contributed to

the league since their arrival and have helped bring on

the careers of players such as Manuel Locatelli, Federico Acerbi,

Gianluca Scamacca, Davide Frattesi and perhaps

most impressively their iconic one of their own diamond

that is Euro 2020 winner Domenico Berardi.

This season hasn’t gone to plan and even relegation saviour

specialist Davide Ballardini hasn’t been able to strike

a tune out of the team.

It is such a shame it has to end this way but it looks as

if Lazio will be putting the final nail in the Sassuolo coffin.

Arrivederci Neroverdi.

Prediction: Lazio 2-0 Sassuolo

투도르 감독이 부임하기 전의

중위권 마무리 예상보다는 훨씬 나은 결과입니다.

반면, 중위권 자리라도 간절히 원할 팀은

끔찍한 시즌을 보낸 사수올로입니다.

평소 중위권이나 그 이상을 유지하던 팀이 전혀 기세를 타지 못했고,

지난 주말 칼리아리에게 패하면서 사수올로는 11년 만에

세리에A를 떠날 위기에 처해 있습니다.

에밀리아로마냐의 소규모 팀인 사수올로는 리그에 큰 기여를 했고,

마누엘 로카텔리, 페데리코 아세르비, 지안루카 스카마카, 다비데 프라테시,

그리고 특히 유로 2020 우승자 도메니코 베라르디와 같은

선수들의 경력을 발전시키는 데 도움을 주었습니다.

이번 시즌은 계획대로 되지 않았고, 강등 위기 탈출 전문가인

Atalanta vs Torino

Apprentice travels to visit Master in this one as Ivan Juric prepares to

take charge of Torino one final time as he makes

the trip to Atalanta to face his former mentor Gian Piero Gasperini.

The former Crotone and Hellas Verona coach has enjoyed

three fruitful years in Turin but both sides now appear to

have reached an agreement that now is the time to part ways.

The underdog qualities that Juric instilled in his highly successful

Verona team have carried over into his spell with

La Granata who have found themselves battling at the edge of the

European chasing pack,

which is far better than the lower reaches that they found

themselves fighting in prior to their manager’s arrival.

This season has been a good one but one can’t help

but feel a little more investment to back up the likes of Nikola Vlasic,

Duvan Zapata and Antonio Sanabria could really push the team on.

Their outgoing coach certainly feels so as he has cited this

as his main reason for walking away at his expiring contract.

His opposite number and the man he was assistant to at

both Genoa and Inter, Gian Piero Gasperini is still very much

keen on pursuing his project at Atalanta.

The club are currently undergoing their most successful period

ever and with the Champions League to look forward to

again next term, it really couldn’t be a better time to

be a fan of the Bergamo based side.

Whilst Juric will want a nice send off and surely his former

mentor can understand that,

Atalanta still have third place in their sights.

They should win this one.

Prediction: Atalanta 2-0 Torino

Milan vs Salernitana

Another coach who looks likely to be taking charge of

his last game at a club this weekend is the rather harshly

critiqued Stefano Pioli.

The former Lazio, Inter and Fiorentina manager is yet to

fully confirm his departure from Milan at the time of writing

but it appears that his rather successful spell in

charge of the club has run its course.

When Pioli arrived at the red and black side of Milan,

the team were in dire straits and looked marooned in mid table,

a place where they had spent much of the previous decade

following the league’s post Calciopoli apocalypse.

Following some smart recruitment and a rather impressive

substance and backbone being added to a previously fragile team

saw an almost overnight transformation as

the Rossonieri started to make an ascent to the top end of the table.

After a successful 2020/21 season saw the team finish

second and qualify for the Champions League for

the first time in nearly a decade, the task was to try and

go one step further and that they did when they lifted the league

title the season after.

Despite a fall off last year, they also reached the semi finals of

the Champions League but this year’s lack of title challenge

and silverware assault has led to fans becoming disgruntled.

It appears that now is the time to see whether or not someone

else can take the team a step further.

Salernitana would love such a luxury as they have been down

right rotten this term and have deservedly been

the first team relegated.

After a solid if unremarkable year last year, it looked like

the team could kick on but in truth they’ve never got going.

With four managers and a team that has been ever changing

all year long, La Granata have been appalling.

Expect Milan to give them one last beating on

their way down to the second division.

Prediction: Milan 3-0 Salernitana

Juventus vs Monza

Yet another team who will be looking for a manager

this summer are Juventus.

After the rather acrimonious departure of Max Allegri following

his rather bizarre tirade of anger in their Coppa Italia final win last week,

the Bianconeri are on the lookout for the coach

who will be tasked with the job of trying to wrestle

the Scudetto crown back to the Allianz following four years without it.

Since the Maurizio Sarri and Cristiano Ronaldo inspired league win

in 2020, The Old Lady have been also rans, a position

they haven’t had to endure for over a decade.

Nine straight league title wins, multiple Coppa Italias and

Champions League final appearances had Juve at

the top of the Italian game but for now they sit a way off the pace.

If the rumours are true and an agreement to bring in

Thiago Motta is finalised, it could be a fun year to be a

Juve fan for a change.

For now club legend Paolo Montero has the reins and

the visit of Monza will be his assignment and

it will be expected that he sees the final home game home

with three points.

Monza looks to have finally slipped off on their holidays

already as their place in mid table is secure.

A loss last week against struggling Frosinone was a game in

which they lacked bite and panache and

who can really blame them as they’ve reached

their goal this year with games to spare.

Their coach Rafaelle Palladino is an ex player of their opponents so

will want to try and give a good account of himself

to keep his burgeoning reputation growing ever more.

Sadly, it’s hard to see him getting enough out of his team to

cause a surprise result.

Prediction: Juventus 2-1 Monza

that it will be his final season in football management.

It is rather fitting that he ends his storied and

quite enchanting management career at a club close to

his heart that he had his first real success with back in

the late 1980s when he took them from the third tier up to Serie A.

The man who guided Leicester to an unthinkable

Premier League also has ties with Cagliari’s upcoming opponents

Fiorentina as he coached them from 1993 until 1997,

taking them up to the top flight and establishing

them there in that time.

The job he has done in his final mission is nothing short of incredible.

Taking a team up via the play offs that were say treading water

in mid table with over half of the season gone to

then being able to keep them afloat on their return to

the top flight despite having to navigate

his way through a rather intense and busy relegation battle is

quite the final achievement for Ranieri.

His opposite number is a man who is no doubt looking at

Ranieri is a man he’d love to emulate.

Vincenzo Italiano has done some great things at Fiorentina,

namely guiding them to back to back Europa Conference League finals.

League wise, they haven’t been at their best though

this term which has led to rumours that the former

Spezia coach and the club could part ways in the summer.

a way to turn good performances into more wins and

success that was enjoyed by their predecessor

The underwhelming arrival of Rudi Garcia immediately

irked fans who wanted a bigger and more established name and

ultimately the ex-Roma coach didn’t ever really recover from that.

Then came the return of the once successful Walter Mazzarri

as relegation and battles to avoid the drop became the norm.

This year things are much more settled and fans will

even have a wry smile on their face as they finally find

themselves in the safe haven of midtable whilst

also comfortable in the knowledge

that they won’t have to face their bitter rivals

Sampdoria again next term as they were beaten in the

Serie B play offs by Catanzaro this past week.

Bologna will be obliging guests as they too will be carrying

a wry smile as they have achieved greatness

that lay way beyond their pre season expectations.

Under the innovative Thiago Motta, the side have lit up

the league and been the true breakout side.

Last season was a success but this season has been beyond

their wildest dreams as an impending

third place finish is well within their grasp and

it is mathematically certain that they will be

playing Champions League football next season.

Whether Motta stays or whether their squad gets

asset stripped as so often is the case in these types of

situations where teams overachieve,

no one can take away from them just

how well they’ve done this campaign.

Much like Verona vs Inter, this game will be one to be

enjoyed by both sets of contented fans.
