AS Monaco are set to receive a big boost as
they return to Ligue 1 action.
Denis Zakaria returned to first-team training just before
the international break, before pulling out of the Switzerland squad.
It means that he is not only fit but also fresh as he looks to
return to action when the Principality club host Brest
at the Stade Louis II on Friday night.
Les Monégasques went into the break on a high after
registering back-to-back wins against Bologna and then Strasbourg.
It was a much-needed return to form for Adi Hutter's side,
who without Zakaria had experienced a slump.
Once again brimming with confidence and with a vital player
back in the fold, they will head into this match as favourites.
Whilst Brest have thrived in the Champions League,
they have been inconsistent in Ligue 1.
That is, at least in part, a result of the rotation and
the inconsistencies in the starting line-up.
They have lost their last two in the league with
their most recent defeat coming in surprising circumstances

Given their strong performances in the Champions League,
that has almost become the priority for Eric Roy and
so their domestic form has suffered.
Les Monégasques have won each of the last five encounters
between these two sides and all the evidence suggests
that the Principality club will continue

They wanted change and they have it.
Sampaoli is an explosive figure, as he evidenced during
his time at Marseille and he is the type of manager
that can have a significant short-term impact on the club.
Insisting on intensity, do not expect to see the same Rennes side
that rolled over in their last two games,
losing against Auxerre and Toulouse, while conceding six goals.
By the end of Julien Stéphan's tenure,
the players had given up and were directionless.
A fresh impetus, coupled with the desire to impress their new coach,
should see some kind of return to form.
Lille have drawn their last three games in all competitions.
Against Nice, they dominated for periods
but struggled to control for a full 90.
Jonathan David was successfully contained during
that encounter but against a more fragile SRFC defence,
likely to play with a back four,
he will have more joy here.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo, excellent against Nice,
should be more contained, given the match-ups.

A thigh injury, the severity of which has not yet been diagnosed,
will likely see him miss the encounter with Strasbourg.
With four assists already this season, he is the source of Nice's
attacking impetus down the left and he will be a big miss.
There are positives, however.
Sofiane Diop is fit and firing again whilst
the return of Tanguy Ndombélé just before the international
break added more attacking impetus to the midfield.
Scoring had looked like an issue for Nice at times,
however, with important players returning in the attacking sector,
this is now less of a concern, defence, however, is.
Strasbourg showed their inexperience in the 3-1 loss to Monaco.
With just 10 minutes to go, they had the game in
their hands before ultimately throwing the game away,
squandering their 1-0 advantage.
There is no need for Liam Rosenior's side to be demotivated, however.
Performances are still there, even if,
with two defeats on the bounce, results are not.
This will be an interesting match-up with RCSA likely to mirror
Nice's 3-4-3 formation, making this a game about match-ups,
intensity, and duels.
It will become a question of who can show the more quality on
the day and between these two sides, the difference isn't
extreme and small details could decide what is a finely poised game.

The Italian shot-stopper may miss this game with illness,
having missed Italy's game against France on Sunday.
If he does, it won't be a big miss, given his current form.
There are no fresh injury concerns for PSG,
although Goncalo Ramos is nearing a return to action.
He could make a big difference, just not against Toulouse.
Toulouse are now getting the results that their performances deserve.
Their 10th-place standing is much more reflective of where
the side and their four-game unbeaten streak,
which includes victories and clean sheets in their last three,
means that they will arrive at the Parc des Princes
brimming with confidence.
They may lack the firepower to scare PSG, however,
they have the solidity and organisation to shut
them out at the very least.
Only a perfect defensive performance would ensure
that but they have shown themselves capable of that,
albeit against weaker opposition, in recent weeks.
Victory is by no means a certainty for PSG against this resilient
TFC side, who often rise to the big occasion.

There can be no doubt that goals remain an issue for
Will Still's side and with Jonathan Gradit and Abdukodir Khusanov
absent against Marseille, defending could be an issue too.
In terms of quality, Lens cannot match OM and with some key
individuals missing in key areas of the pitch, it spells danger.
The onus will be on Facundo Medina and Kevin Danso to put
in big performances to salvage something here.
Not that Marseille approach this game in a serene atmosphere either.
They lost 3-1 against Auxerre.
It was a shock result and one that led to Roberto De Zerbi's offering to
leave the club in an implosion in the post-match press conference.
OM's hierarchy have come out publicly expressing
their support for De Zerbi.
These kinds of erratic performances and erratic results are actually
consistent with De Zerbi's managerial career as a whole
but after defeats such as the one against Auxerre,
his sides have very often shown a reaction.
That being said, Marseille struggle against low blocks and
given their absences, Lens may reign in
their ambition and follow a similar strategy.

This game looks like a relegation six-pointer and

Montpellier did their chances lots of good
with a substantial win over Brest.
Signs of the turning of the tide? It is too early to tell,
even though the addition of defensive reinforcements has
clearly done some good and added a base to build from.
That will be crucial against an ASSE who will likely be

One, even both may need to be rested to an extent and
that would have a potentially significant bearing on this match.
Lyon are trying to block out a lot of noise currently.
The DNCG, French football's financial watchdog,
have taken the decision to provisionally
relegate OL to Ligue 2 amid financial difficulties.
That decision came at a time when OL were looking more
solid on the pitch and much more consistent.
Blocking out the drama off the pitch and continuing
that trajectory is a difficult task for Pierre Sage and his squad,
making them a highly unpredictable proposition this weekend.

they will be no roll-overs but this Auxerre side,
perhaps the most free-flowing in transition in Ligue 1,
should have the tools to dismantle Angers and
continue their unbeaten run, which stretches back to four games.
