Everton vs Nottingham Forest
Two sides who claimed massive results on Boxing Day clash
just a few days later, as Nottingham Forest travel
to Goodison Park for the final time in the league to take on Everton.
Starting with the hosts, they claimed a big point
on the road against reigning Premier League champions
Manchester City on the 26th, a result which put further ground
between themselves and the relegation places.
A lovely strike from Illiman Ndiaye cancelled out
Bernardo Silva’s first half opener and in truth,
Toffees fans couldn’t be blamed for feeling slightly disappointed
that their side couldn’t grab a famous victory
at the Etihad Stadium as Sean Dyche’s outfit missed
a number of good opportunities late
on to take the three points on the counter-attack.
Forest too enjoyed their first match after Christmas Day
as they beat Tottenham 1-0 at the City Ground thanks
to an Anthony Elanga strike in the 28th minute.
Not only did that result continue the home side’s solid form of late,
but it also promoted the Tricky Trees back up into the top four
as their unlikely push for UEFA Champions League qualification
this season remains on track, at least for now.
This time around,
the away side could find the going a bit more difficult however,
as Forest don’t exactly hold a strong record
when facing Everton overall.
That’s perhaps best highlighted by the fact that they’ve kept
just one clean sheet across their last 16 league games
against the Toffees, and with that coming all the way back
in January 1999, the visitors will be desperate to change
that on this latest visit to Goodison.
There’s also a little bit of club history to be made for Forest
if they can pick up the three points on offer here too,
as after defeating Liverpool at Anfield already this season,
the away side will be trying to beat both the Reds and
Everton away from home in the same league campaign
for the first time since 1898/99!

The Spanish manager will welcome a return home
to Villa Park then, especially as his side have put together
an impressive eight match unbeaten run on home soil
in the Premier League at this venue.
That has been bookended by three straight victories,
the latest of which saw the Villains put Manchester City
to the sword 2-1 thanks to goals from Duran and Morgan Rogers.
Next up, the hosts will target continuing their recent fine
form against visiting Brighton, winning five
of their last six league fixtures against this opposition.
Considering that the Seagulls have also won just one
of their 14 away league games against Aston Villa
in club history too, the home side look well-placed
for another successful result here.
There are still positives for Brighton supporters to clench at at least,
not least so that their side’s only league win against Villa
over the last three campaigns did in fact come
during their last such match-upin a 1-0 win in May.
The Seagulls have additionally only lost their final game
of the calendar year in just two of their seven seasons
in the Premier Leaguewhich could provide a nice little omen

witnessing them sit in their lowest position
at this point of a campaign since 1989.
In the process of that latest defeat, Manchester United
additionally became the first side in the Premier League era
to lose five matches across all competitions
in consecutive Decembers, losing five games
in both December 2023 and December 2024
as their overall plight continues to seemingly worsen by the week.
A match-up with old rivals Newcastle United will hardly serve
as a confidence boost then, especially as the Magpies
have hit some great form over the last month or so.
