Juventus vs Inter
This weekend’s premier fixture in Italy is the Derby D’Italia
between Juventus and Inter.
The previous installment of this game in Serie A this season
produced perhaps the best game of the entire season so far.
The rather insane 4-4 draw between the two saw brilliance,
down right daft defending and showcased
some really promising young talent that both sides boast in their ranks.
Traditionally, this game is one that is decided by a single goal
margin with at times it ending 1-0 or 2-1 in recent memory
so it was a real shock to see so many goals.
Inter look back at that fixture as a huge missed opportunity
as despite them going behind in the game,
they lead 4-2 at one stage and missed guilt edge chances
through Nicolo Barella and Marcus Thuram
which ultimately cost them as their poor defending
came back to bite them.
Two extra points to their name would see them leading Serie A,
something that Juventus can only dream of.
Aside from their win over Manchester City in the Champions League,
Juve have flattered to deceive in the big fixtures so far
this year and their recent performance,
a late 2-1 win at lowly Como, was quite frankly abysmal.
If it wasn’t for the heroics of their in-form loanee Randall Kolo Muani,
they’d have dropped into sixth place.
They have still only been beaten once in the league so far
this year which is something that people do keep
forgetting but their inability to put in convincing
performances makes very few have any real hope
that the team can make a consistent run for the top four and
even somehow push themselves into the title picture.
Given that this tie takes place at the Allianz,
it gives Juve a little more of a chance and some me even
have them down as slight favourites given
that their opponents also haven’t managed to get
the better of any of the top sides other than Lazio and
Atalanta as they’ve dropped points against Napoli,
Fiorentina and Milan on occasion this year.
One goal could decide it but we’d love a similar game to
the last one played out between these two as a neutral.
Prediction: Juventus 1-1 Inter

인테르는 당시 경기를 아쉬운 기회로 기억할 것입니다.
경기 초반 리드를 빼앗겼음에도 불구하고 한때 4-2로 앞서 나갔으며,
니콜로 바렐라와 마르쿠스 튀람이 결정적인 기회를 놓치면서
결국 수비 불안으로 인해 승리를 놓쳤습니다.
만약 이 경기에서 승점 2점을 더 가져갔다면
현재 세리에A 선두 자리에 있을 것이며,

Lazio vs Napoli
Lazio shocked the entirety of Serie A
when they rather surprisingly managed to take all three points
when these two last met.
It was Gustav Isaksen’s late goal that silenced
the Diego Armando Maradona stadium back in early December
and it was to be a result that showed some of
the frailties of the current league leaders.
Napoli have managed to bounce back well from
that particular disappointment and still do lead the league
as mentioned but their last two league results have started to
raise a few question marks.
This may seem overly harsh given they’ve not lost either game
and prior to that they won seven games on the bounce
but the draws against Roma and Udinese have shown
a vulnerable team who look as
if they may well be missing their former Georgian superstar
Kvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The decision to sell the winger in the notoriously quiet
January window that Napoli themselves often try to avoid
shocked many and the decision to replace him with Milan reserve
Noah Okafor on loan is even more of an eyebrow raiser.
Coach Conte believes that the team are
where they should be as in they’re happy being anywhere in
the top four and continues to play down the team’s
chances of the title but one can’t help but feel the decision to
not replace Kvara with a more established name could cost them.
Lazio also won’t quite go away quietly as
they have bounced back from defeats against the likes of Inter,
Fiorentina and the derby against Roma to rise up into the top four.
Marco Baroni’s young side continue to defy the odds and
lead the chase for fourth spot despite their lack of spending
power in comparison to the likes of Milan and Juventus
who sit beneath them in the table.
After last week’s 5-1 hammering of a rather sorry looking Monza,
confidence should be high and they’ll fancy their chances
against a team they’ve already beaten this year whilst
this time having the support of their home fans.
Could Lazio do the double over Napoli?
It’ll be a close one.

Atalanta vs Cagliari
Following Inter’s loss to Fiorentina in their game in hand
last week and Napoli’s consecutive draws,
Atalanta have managed to rather quietly sneak their way back
into the title picture.
A rather inconsistent start to the year saw
Gian Piero Gasperini’s men start to flounder and fall
away from prominence but their battering of Verona
last week was timely as it allowed them to push back
into the Scudetto challenge.
Perhaps the most pleasing part of the win for fans of La Dea
was the excellent performance of their striker
Mateo Retegui who is enjoying the season of his life.
When playing back in his native Argentina just two years ago,
he was called up to the Italian national side after
it was discovered that he had Italian lineage.
This prompted a move to Genoa where he impressed
last year but few could have predicted he would
go on to enjoy a campaign with his new club Atalanta like he has.
A quite simply ridiculous four goal haul last weekend in
the 5-0 rout of Hellas took Retegui’s league tally to
twenty goals, five clear of his next nearest challenger
for the Capocannoniere and quite comfortably
his best tally in a season in his career to date
with there being fourteen more games yet to play in
Serie A for his team.
Lowly Cagliari could well be Retegui’s next victims and
it’s safe to say they won’t exactly be relishing
their trip to take on Gasperini’s strong attack.
Davide Nicola’s team do however come into this one in
encouraging form and what makes
that form so encouraging is the way that they have managed to
beat the teams around them.
Recent wins over Monza, Lecce and Parma have seen
the Sardinians pull up the league and build up a four point
buffer between themselves and the dreaded drop zone.
Credit must go to Nicola for managing to pull the team away
from trouble despite their low budget.
Staying up is their primary aim and as long as they keep
beating the teams around them then they should be fine.
It would be a huge surprise if they escape with
anything from this game though as a trip to the Gewiss
may be a trip too far.

강등권에 머물고 있는 칼리아리는
레테기의 다음 희생양이 될 가능성이 크며,
가스페리니의 강력한 공격진을 상대하는 것이
그리 달갑지는 않을 것입니다.
하지만 다비데 니콜라 감독의 팀은 최근 상승세를 타고 있으며,
그 상승세의 가장 긍정적인 부분은
자신들과 비슷한 순위에 있는 팀들을
상대로 승리를 거두고 있다는 점입니다.
최근 AC몬자, 레체, 파르마를 꺾으며 리그 순위를 끌어올렸고,
강등권과의 격차를 4점 차로 벌렸습니다.
적은 예산에도 불구하고 팀을 위기에서 구해낸 니콜라 감독에게
찬사를 보내야 할 것입니다.
올 시즌 잔류가 최우선 목표인 만큼 비슷한 순위권 팀들과의 맞대결에서
계속 승리를 챙긴다면
안전하게 남아 있을 가능성이 큽니다.

Milan vs Verona
Since Paulo Fonseca’s departure it has been quite an interesting
month or so for fans of Milan.
Their new coach Sergio Conceiçao had an almost instant
impact when he guided the team to a surprising Supercoppa win
after they managed to come back from behind against
nearest rivals Inter.
Since then though they’ve struggled to put a consistent
run together and traded heavily in the January transfer window.
What Conceiçao will be looking for over the next few weeks is
for his team to gel, his new signings,
in particular Joao Felix and Santiago Gimenez,
to have impact and results start to appear and his team
then in turn start to push towards the Champions League places.
On paper they perhaps have the ideal fixture as
they welcome a rather battered looking Hellas Verona to
San Siro this coming weekend.
Hellas arrive in Milan off the back of an absolute drubbing
by Atalanta and by the time you read this preview
the club may well have replaced
their under pressure coach Paolo Zanetti.
The former Venezia and Empoli coach has managed to
push away speculation about his future numerous times so far
this year but the same problems continue to persist
for him and his team as his inability to build a competent
defence is seeing his side beaten far too easily and
means they keep running the risk of falling into the bottom three.
Milan should have enough about them to take care of them.
Expect Gimenez to be in the goals again.

Fiorentina vs Como
Fiorentina are enjoying a cracking season.
It’s hard to believe that prior to the arrival of their previous
coach Vincenzo Italiano almost four years ago,
the team found itself languishing in the bottom half of
the league and struggling to return to its former glory
as a European challenger.
The likes of Beppe Iachini, Paulo Sousa and the second
coming of Vincenzo Montella did nothing to shift the club
from the doldrums but thankfully for fans of La Viola,
things did get much better.
Italiano has laid a platform for Rafaelle Palladino to move
the team on and he’s doing just that.
Despite some early teething problems,
his young side have become a real force in Serie A and
their young, talented and exuberant outfit is a match for anyone
in this league and the sprinkling of more experienced
players such as Robin Gosens and David De Gea adds
real balance to a team that could well finish in the top four
this year and qualify for the Champions League for
the first time in almost twenty years.
They host Como this weekend and it’s safe to say
that they aren’t quite getting enough luck at the moment.
Cesc Fabregas’ team have now lost four games out of five
but it’s safe to say you wouldn’t have expected them to
win any of them given that they have been against Milan,
Bologna, Atalanta and Juventus.
What is perhaps more disappointing is
that they could easily have gained a point if not more in
the games against Milan and Juventus and certainly
didn’t disgrace themselves against Atalanta either.
However, it’s hard to see their luck changing much
here as Fiorentina, at their home ground,
should have enough to see off their struggling opponents.
Prediction: Fiorentina 2-0 Como

거의 20년 만에
유럽 최고 무대에 복귀할 가능성도 있습니다.

Bologna vs Torino
Vincenzo Italiano’s Bologna team are enjoying life at the moment
and despite their early exit from their maiden
Champions League campaign are perhaps even matching
last season’s miracle campaign.
They have a cup final to look forward to also and
what is perhaps the most encouraging factor of the team
at the moment is they are really making themselves hard to beat.
Last weekend’s draw saw them below par in attack
but they were never in any danger of losing the game
as their defence is watertight.
That resolute rearguard has helped the team go on
a rather spectacular run that has seen them lose just once
in their last sixteen matches in all competitions.
Their visitors on Friday night are Torino and it’s safe to
say that they are trying a mini attempt at a similar run.
After a vile run of form through the autumn
that saw the team fall quite dramatically down the table,
coach Paolo Vanoli took his team back to basics and
has worked hard on finding a way to get his team to
defend resolutely and pick up points
without their star striker Duvan Zapata who was cruelly
struck down by a season ending injury prior to their loss of form.
Six draws of their last seven matches has seen them find
a way to grind out results which has eased
their fears of falling down the table and into relegation trouble.
Not many have found a way to pick up points at Bologna
mind and they’ll have to find a way to keep
their back door shut if they are to escape with any points at all.
Bologna’s recent form makes them slight favourites and
it is hard to see it being a game that has too many goals
given that both teams pride themselves on being
hard to score against.
Bologna may just edge it but it’s probably going to be a draw.
Prediction: Bologna 1-1 Torino

Parma vs Roma
Parma against Roma sees two teams face off in complete
opposite runs of form.
The home side are in a real state of panic as their loss last weekend
against fellow strugglers Cagliari means
that they’re now a point from safety and without a win in six.
Last season’s Serie B champions were expected to really
establish themselves in the top flight this year and
push on up into midtable and those at the club
clearly agreed as they backed their coach Fabio Pecchia
by offering him a new contract.
Given the investment and momentum gained by
last year’s superb season, it’d be a huge problem
if the team were to go down so this form needs to be
addressed quickly if Pecchia is to keep hold of his job.
Roma arrive at the Tardini in a much better place as
their wily old coach Claudio Ranieri continues to
perform yet another rescue job in his long and
illustrious managerial career.
Now eight Serie A games unbeaten, the Giallorossi are
starting to climb upwards and have the once previously
unlikely European finish in their sights.
Ranieri is finding different ways to win games and
in Paulo Dybala the team has a player that every team in
the league would love to have as
when at his best he is able to truly make a team tick.
Parma have shown bravery at times this year and
earlier on in the season they managed to take points off
both Milan and Lazio.
However, their form makes them second favourites in this one.
Roma should have enough to do similar to
what they did last week against similar opponents in Venezia.

Monza vs Lecce
Monza have had a truly appalling campaign.
Their fall from midtable to the league’s bottom place
following the departure of Rafaelle Palladino in
the summer has been sad to see.
The club’s replacement Alessandro Nesta struggled to
put together a team that could regularly achieve
results throughout his spell in charge that lasted
just three months so he soon lost his job and
was replaced by the inexperienced Salvatore Bocchetti.
The former Verona coach wasn’t able to find a way to
arrest the team’s decline and after just one win in ten matches,
against Palladino’s Fiorentina incidentally,
he was fired this week.
His replacement?
You guessed it, Nesta.
The second coming of the former Milan defender
has raised eyebrows and given the fact that the club
let Daniel Maldini, Warren Bondo and Milan Djuric leave in
the transfer window means that some are suggesting
they’re already preparing for life in Serie B.
Lecce are their visitors this weekend and they have relegation
fears of their own.
Just four points separate them from the bottom three and
although life under Marco Giampaolo has been much better,
they won’t want to rest on their laurels and
will be keen to pick up a win against the league’s bottom
side to ease fears of their own.
If Monza can’t can’t find a way to get a win in
this then they’re giving themselves absolutely no chance
of surviving even if they have belief in Nesta.
A win for Lecce could see them push into midtable.
No one wants to lose.

Udinese vs Empoli
Empoli are in real trouble.
A strong start to the season saw the team look to consolidate
themselves in midtable but a recent horrible run of form
that has seen them lose seven out of their last nine matches
and win none of those has seen them drop to
the place above the relegation places.
Just a solitary point now keeps them above the relegation
zone and given that they take a trip to an Udinese side
that took points off the leaders last weekend next it could
well be zero wins in ten and the end for their coach Roberto D’Aversa.
When D’Aversa was appointed in the role in the summer
many were underwhelmed but soon changed
their tune when he started to gel the young team together
but if he can’t find a way to do that again starting this weekend,
he will be back hunting for a job.
Kosta Runjaic and Udinese have absolutely no sympathy
though as they have goals of their own for this season
that are far loftier than in recent years.
Whilst in the past few years the team have been happy to
settle for simply surviving in the top flight,
they have a top ten finish well within their sights this year.
They currently sit tenth and it's hard to argue against
them finishing there come May as they showed just
how much they’ve improved in the way they handled
their trip to face the current league leaders last weekend.
Empoli are desperate and will want to turn their run
around and back their coach but confidence is so low.
Udinese’s confidence is much higher and given
that they’re at home in this one, back them to win it.

Genoa vs Venezia
Patrick Vieira’s Genoa are sitting in relative comfort
at the time of writing.
After a tough start to the campaign that saw
the club’s hierarchy call on the former Arsenal midfielder to
rescue them from their troubles,
the team have become much more resilient and
have risen from the relegation spots into midtable.
They aren’t safe yet by any means as a few straight losses
could well see them fall into trouble
but there must be credit given to their coach for reviving
the team who were in the relegation zone when he arrived.
The job is even more impressive when you factor in
the ways he's managed to build a resolute side despite
little help in the transfer market and having
to make the most of a squad that is weaker
than it was last year, something that his predecessor
Alberto Gilardino struggled to handle.
A win against a struggling Venezia who sit second
bottom could really see them push out of sight of the drop
and that is a likely result given that Eusebio Di Francis
simply cannot find a way to pull his side away from safety.
To make matters worse,
the club decided rather ridiculously to sell the team’s main
striker Joel Pohjanpalo to second division
Palermo on transfer deadline day.
Venezia were always going to find surviving in
Serie A this year a tough ask when you consider
their limited budget compared to almost every club at this level.
A loss here could see them eight points from safety
should Empoli, Verona and Como pick up points above them.
That would be leaving them a mountain to climb.
It’s hard to see Genoa going easy on them though.
