Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City
Arguably the most important fixture
of this Premier League matchday this weekend comes
at the City Ground as Nottingham Forest and
Manchester City do battle in a huge clash
that could have far-reaching implications
on who finishes in the top four this campaign.
The pair sit in third and fourth spot ahead of kick-off respectively,
though both have also shown plenty of weakness
in recent months as the going begins to get incredibly tough
at the top of the table.
Starting with Forest,
who after beating Brighton 7-0 in a remarkable showing back
in early February, have very much struggled
on their Premier League adventures of late.
A 0-0 draw with Arsenal last time out
in the league will have felt like a fantastic result at the time,
and although it definitely was given the Gunners’ later 7-1 win
over PSV in the UEFA Champions League
which highlighted their quality once again,
that stalemate did also make it three without victory
for the hosts in the league.
That mini run included vital defeats to both Newcastle united
and Fulham which has very much helped the sides around them
to catch up in the standings.
To make matters worse for the home side,
they also hold a pretty terrible recent record
when facing off with Manchester City.
Since a 3-2 win at Maine Road all the way back in November 1997,
Forest have failed to win to win any of their last nine league
encounters with the Citizens, a run which included 1 3-0 defeat
in the reverse fixture played back in December.
But Man City continue to show themselves
to be far from their highest standards of recent campaigns,
as even though wins against Plymouth in the FA Cup and
Tottenham in the Premier League will have raised spirits,
they continue to crumble under pressure in the biggest of matches.
That was seen with their duo of defeats to Liverpool and
Real Madrid in late February and
although they’ve now won each
of their last three Premier League games
against Nottingham Forest by an aggregate scoreline of 7-0,
this most recent match-up could prove a lot tougher.

Despite that, much more positivity can be felt
around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in general,
especially as important players continue to return
from injury for a side who now look to instead go all the way
in the UEFA Europa League and win that trophy.
Unless that happens,
this season will still likely prove to be a frustrating and
underwhelming one for manager Ange Postecoglou,
who before the season had mentioned his ability
to bring trophies to any club his previously been
at during his managerial career.
A midtable finish will damage that reputation then,
but between now and the end of the season,
the Australian will now hope that his side can put
as many points as possible on the board starting
with this matchup against Bournemouth.
There’s good reason to expect another Tottenham victory
in this latest clash with the South coast club
with a glance at the recent head-to-head history
between these two sides.
That’s because Spurs have won six
of their seven Premier League home games against Bournemouth,
including victory in this exact fixture last season.
But this is arguably the Cherries’ best ever Premier League team
and they arrive in the capital looking to restart
their UEFA Champions League qualification prospects.
Losses to Brighton and Wolves across their last two league fixtures
will have dampened spirits around the Vitaly Stadium,
but after following their 1-0 win in December against Spurs,
Bournemouth will now be looking to complete
their first ever league double over the London outfit.

and to be quite frank, that wait is extremely likely
to continue given that they face up to fierce rivals Arsenal this weekend.
To emphasise that point even more,
the Red Devils have now lost their last four Premier League games
against Arsenal, their longest losing run
against the Gunners in their league history.
In fairness,
Arsenal have themselves looked a little shaky of late
as their title challenge continues to come undone,
though a 7-1 rout at the UEFA Champions League Round
of 16 stage against Dutch side PSV will send them into this clash
with much more confidence undo their belt.
That’s good news elsewhere too in terms of good omens
that underline their likeliness of victory here,
not least so with the fact that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta
has won seven of his 10 Premier League games
against Manchester United, with his first ever victory
for the Gunners also coming against them back in January 2020!

Granted, the Reds have played a game extra,
but they should have no problem here putting Southampton
to the sword, a side who remain rooted to the bottom of the table.
Relegation for them in now almost guaranteed
but they’ll be playing for pride for the rest of the season
as they look to avoid becoming the worst side the Premier League
has ever seen from a points perspective.
Whilst that will be the longer-term aim,
any sort of success here looks impossible thanks to their return
of 11 defeats across their last 13 league meetings with Liverpool,
which includes losing their last six visits to Anfield
by a combined 19-1 scoreline.
Prediction: Liverpool to win via 3.5 handicap
