Just a few days on for recording
another very impressive Premier League win at St James’ Park,
Newcastle United look to take another huge step
towards finishing in the top four this campaign
as they welcome Crystal Palace to the Northeast.
Last time out, fierce rivals Manchester United
were the Magpies' latest victims as they cruised
to a fantastic 4-1 home victory,
a result which pushed them into fourth spot
at the expense of Manchester City.
Next up, Newcastle will look to make it
another victory against Crystal Palace,
one which would push them above Nottingham Forest
and into third spot in the standings with just six games to go.
A home win wouldn’t exactly surprise here,
as Palace make the long trip north on the back of a hiding
from the aforementioned Man City.
Despite taking a 2-0 lead at the Etihad Stadium midway
through the first half, Oliver Glasner’s side completely
and uncharacteristically fell apart to eventual lose 5-2.
That weekend defeat ended the Eagles
unbeaten Premier League run at five matches then,
a streak which had seen Palace move up to 11th spot
before the weekend’s action.
Now they must find a way to respond quickly,
although that could be easier said than done
at a venue where they’ve struggled of late.
That’s because the Londoners have won just one
of their last seven league matches against Newcastle in general,
whilst they’ve failed to score in six of their last eight away matches
against the Magpies away from home,
including each of the last three.
