Although it took them a look time to break down
Everton over the weekend,
Manchester City eventual ran out 2-0 victors
on their last ever trip to Goodison Park
to bolster their chances of finishing in the top five
and the UEFA Champions League positions this season.
That victory came hot on the heels
of a stunning comeback from 2-0 down against Crystal Palace
the week before,
a match which they eventually won 5-2 at the Etihad Stadium,
so a return to home surroundings
will be welcomed by Pep Guardiola and his team.
With respect to the Eagles however,
the Citizens face a much tougher assignment this time around
as high-flying Aston Villa make the trip north
to face the reigning champions.
In the midst of a five-match winning run in the Premier League,
Villa put fellow in-form outfit Newcastle United to the sword
over the weekend,
claiming a huge 4-1 win
as they underlined their own ambitions for
a top five finish again this term.
Despite being pegged back by the Magpies in that match,
the Villans produced a fantastic second half display
which will have served as a huge confidence boost
ahead of this latest outing.
That’ll be needed with a look
at Villa’s prior record away from home against Manchester City,
as they’ve lost each of their last 14 away Premier League matches
against this opponent since April 2007,
a run which has seen them concede 2+ goals
in all but one of those matches.
They did win the reverse fixture earlier this campaign however,
and as a result,
will be looking to claim a first league double over City
since all the way back in the 1962-63 season.
