Arsenal vs Crystal Palace
Another midweek London derby
will be played under the lights on Wednesday
as Arsenal welcome Crystal Palace across town
whilst looking to keep Liverpool’s title bid at bay
for at least one more match.
The Gunners simply need to grab another positive result
in this one at the Emirates Stadium,
as failing to do so
will lead the Anfield side to claim the 2024/25 Premier League title
before they even play again at the weekend.
In fairness to Mikel Arteta’s side though,
another Arsenal win wouldn’t exactly surprise for a number of reasons.
First and foremost,
over the weekend they easily disposed
of struggling Ipswich on the road,
running out convincing 4-0 victors
in one of the league’s most dominant victories this campaign.
In that match,
goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri
did the damage,
and even though star man Bukayo Saka
was forced off at half time through injury
after a terrible foul,
his manager has already confirmed
that there’s no long-lasting damage to worry about.
Arsenal too hold a great record
when facing the Eagles of late
which will only serve to boost confidence even further.
In the Premier League,
the Gunners have now won each of their last five matches
against their fellow Londoners,
and with each of the last two
witnessing Arteta’s outfit net exactly five times,
the goals could flow once again here.
That won’t serve as good news
for visiting Crystal Palace then,
especially as each of their last two matches
on the road in the top-flight
have seen them concede exactly five goals
to Manchester City and then Newcastle United.
They did respond to claim a solid point
on home soil at the weekend against Bournemouth
despite being down to ten men for the whole second half,
but it feels like the wheels have come off
of Oliver Glasner’s side
who could struggle to make an impact here.
