Las Palmas vs Leganes
This was shaping up to be a huge relegation six-pointer,
but it’s already all over for Las Palmas,
who dropped down into the Segunda Division
by virtue of a 1-0 defeat at Sevilla in midweek.
They were left furious at some of the refereeing decisions
in that game which they believe cost them at least a point,
but after four straight defeats at this crucial phase in the season,
they can have few complaints at having ultimately been relegated
to the second tier.
On paper, they do have a bit more quality than opponents Leganes,
so there’ll be real disappointment in the Las Palmas camp
that they’re not still playing for something here.
However, there has been a sense all season,
even when they were on a fantastic run at the end of 2024,
that they were vulnerable defensively and
a bit too easy to play through.
Losing top scorer Fabio Silva to a season-ending injury
last month was also a major turning point.
He hasn’t featured since their 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid,
and Las Palmas have lost every game since,
with little sign of composure in front of goal
from their other forwards over the past week.
There’s likely to be a really flat atmosphere
at the Estadio Gran Canaria for this game now,
and it’s going to be really hard for the home players
to lift themselves to put in a good performance here.
That certainly shouldn’t be an issue for Leganes
who simply have to win this game and
hope for favours elsewhere on Sunday,
otherwise they too will be relegated to the Segunda Division.
Leganes lost 3-0 at Villarreal in midweek,
although they weren’t quite as bad as that scoreline suggests.
They had 23 shots in the game, more than their opponents managed,
and if they can find a similar level of performance here
against a much weaker team, they will have every chance
of picking up the three points they need.
Borja Jimenez has got a full squad to pick from again,
with the exception of long-term absentees Borna Barisic
and Enric Franquesa.
The Leganes boss brought five of his regulars off
after the third goal went in at the Ceramica,
and privately he would have been really targeting this game
for some time as a potential three points.
Much hinges on their best attacking player Dani Raba,
and whether he can bring his best level to this match,
but I fancy them to get the result they need to potentially
take their survival fight to the final day.
Prediction: Leganes win

Barcelona vs Villarreal
Barcelona won the title on Thursday,
with fine strikes from Lamine Yamal and
Fermin Lopez sealing victory in a hotly-contested derby at Espanyol.
They have been comfortably the best team in Spain this season
and are more than worthy champions,
although it wasn’t actually a particularly convincing performance
that sealed the title.
Espanyol negated their talented attack much better
than many of their recent opponents,
and had some really good opportunities
on the break which they missed.
There’s almost certainly a bit of fatigue creeping in now
after an incredibly demanding schedule,
and I expect Hansi Flick to rest a number of his key players here.
That may well include Lamine Yamal and Raphinha,
with the likes of Ansu Fati and Pau Victor expected
to get more minutes, and maybe even most of the game.
That clearly weakens Barca,
and they may also find it difficult to get
anywhere near their usual intensity in a game
that doesn’t really matter, having played so many big matches
over the past month.
Villarreal scored five goals in a victory on this ground last season,
and in theory they are as well equipped as anyone
to exploit Barca’s high line, given their coach’s preference
for a counter-attacking style which has contributed
to 10 away victories already this season in La Liga.
The visitors have won their last four games,
but they still need two more points to absolutely
guarantee a top-five finish and Champions League qualification.
Therefore, we can expect Marcelino to go as strong as possible
with his team selection for this fixture.
The Villarreal boss has more players available for this game
than was the case in midweek, with both Thierno Barry
and Kiko Femenia expected to be fit enough to feature,
at least off the bench, if not from the start.
With only long-term absentee Ilias Akhomach,
and 39-year-old defender Raul Albiol expected to miss out,
that leaves Villarreal in a really strong position
to give a good account of themselves here as they bid
to take the shine off Barcelona’s title party.
I can’t see Flick’s team being anywhere near their best
in this match given the likely changes and
huge efforts they’ve put in across three competitions
in the second half of the season.
As a result, I’m backing Villarreal to seal
Champions League qualification on Sunday,
potentially even with a surprise win.

This is a huge game in the race for European places.
Celta Vigo will secure a place in next season’s Europa League
with victory, while Rayo Vallecano are currently
one position lower in 8th which will be good enough
for Conference League qualification.
Both teams have had terrific seasons
where they’ve exceeded all expectations,
under the guidance of young coaches
who have built on their initial successes
at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
Claudio Giraldez has totally turned Celta around as a football club,
with the fans really buying into the young team he has built,
full of local talent.
What has also made the difference has been the depth
that now exists in this squad, and that should stand them
in good stead again here, with many changes expected
from the team that won at Real Sociedad in midweek.
They are no longer so dependent on veteran forward Iago Aspas
in the final third, but the 37-year-old is one of the players
in contention to rotate in for this game,
along with the likes of Pablo Duran, Yoel Lago,
Williot Swedberg and Hugo Sotelo.
Celta have been really strong at home this season,
winning 11 out of 18 in LaLiga at Balaidos,
and having so many fresh options could also give them
the edge against a Rayo Vallecano side
that has had much less recovery time,
having played on Thursday night.
Rayo drew that game 2-2 against Real Betis,
a decent result on the surface,
although they did waste a two-goal lead
which could ultimately prove the difference
between them qualifying for Europe or just missing out.
Iñigo Perez may also make changes,
with Adri Embarba and Oscar Valentin among the players
who could come in.
However, he doesn’t have as much depth as his opposite number,
and we may see a relatively similar starting lineup,
with perhaps a slight tweak to more of a counter-attacking approach,
with their rapid winger Alvaro Garcia operating as a striker.
Rayo have shown throughout the campaign
that they are capable of going away
from home and being competitive.
However, I can see home advantage and
the noise the Balaidos crowd should generate
for this crunch match really helping Celta’s young team get
over the line and seal a return to Europe with a win.

just want this season to end by this point.
They’ve competed reasonably well in their last three games,
but have still fallen short in the final reckoning and
a repeat is likely again here against an Alaves side
that knows a win would keep them up.
They had a bit of good fortune with decisions against Valencia
in midweek, but they still deserve credit for defending well
in that game and holding their nerve in what was a pressure fixture.
Chacho Coudet has the option of picking the same team
again should he wish, and I doubt we’ll see many changes
from the visitors.
Their level of performance has been quite consistent
since he took over, and while they are not blessed
with a great deal of creativity or obvious goal threats
besides Kike Garcia, they should still have enough
to beat really weak opposition.
Prediction: Real Valladolid 0-1 Alaves
바야돌리드 vs 알라베스

That couldn’t have happened at a worse time,
and while they may still stay up even
if they lose their final two games,
that’s far from certain given the favourable fixtures
that Leganes have.
It’s hard to see them suddenly rediscovering their best level
in this game, not least because Manolo Gonzalez seemingly
has little faith in his squad players, and may go with at least nine
of the players that started on Thursday night.
They only had 24% possession in that match and
finished with only 10 players, so there could be some fatigue
from the visitors at El Sadar.
Osasuna also played on Thursday,
but they’ve certainly got real momentum
after beating Atletico Madrid 2-0 for their fourth win in six matches.
Winger Ruben Garcia is their only selection doubt for this match,
and with Vicente Moreno’s side pushing hard for a place in Europe,
I can see Osasuna coming out on top again here.
Prediction: Osasuna win

Real Sociedad vs Girona
Real Sociedad and Girona are two of the season’s biggest
under-performers, with both sides on course for bottom-half finishes.
Girona did at least secure safety in midweek by winning in Valladolid,
but the fact they were in that position in the first place represents
a disastrous fall from the highs of last season.
Their veteran striker Cristhian Stuani has scored
all of their last four goals, but their other attacking players
have been really disappointing, with the possible exception
of Bryan Gil who is currently injured.
Real Sociedad haven’t been much better,
and they lost at home again in midweek against Celta.
They did create plenty of chances in that game though,
and they may be slightly the more motivated side here
given it’s the final home game for their long-serving
coach Imanol Alguacil who is set to depart.
While some of the players may quite welcome the change,
there is still immense respect for Imanol
who has been a Real Sociedad fan all of his life,
and I can see his team at least giving him a winning send-off
at the Reale Arena.
Prediction: Real Sociedad win

Real Madrid have six definite injury absentees for this game,
and a further six injury doubts,
so again it will be a much-weakened lineup for Carlo Ancelotti
at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan,
with B-team players largely filling the bench.
Despite all the absentees,
they were still pretty dominant against Mallorca in midweek,
having 39 attempts in total, although it took a 95th-minute goal
from young defender Jacobo Ramon to seal a 2-1 win.
Raul Asencio is a fresh doubt for this match,
which could see Real Madrid down to their fifth and
sixth choice centre-backs.
That’s obviously an area of weakness that Sevilla will look to target.
The hosts are safe now after beating Las Palmas 1-0,
but their players will still be hungry to put on a performance
for their supporters who would certainly relish a rare win over Madrid.
I’m not sure Sevilla will have enough quality
to deliver three points, but they may get a draw
from the game against an under-strength visiting side.
Prediction: Draw

With Mallorca fighting for Europe, and Getafe still not safe,
this game matters to both teams and we should see both coaches
go as strong as possible with their starting lineups.
As he normally does,
Jagoba Arrasate rested players for Mallorca’s midweek fixture,
but we should see the likes of Dani Rodriguez, Johan Mojica,
Dominik Greif, Pablo Maffeo and
Omar Mascarell return for this match.
That should give them a boost across the pitch,
and they’ll fancy their chances of shutting out a Getafe side
that has gone five matches without a goal.
It’s an alarming slump given how well they started 2025,
and it feels as though Pepe Bordalas has never really
solved his striker conundrum this season,
with Borja Mayoral’s fitness issues a big reason for that.
The goals from midfield have dried up of late,
and I fancy Mallorca to have the edge here,
despite a few unconvincing recent performances of their own.
Prediction: Mallorca win

for this one which should boost their play in the centre of the pitch.
This isn’t a game that’s likely to produce many goals,
but I can see Los Che having the edge against an Athletic side
that may struggle to play with their usual intensity
on what’s likely to be a warm evening at Mestalla.

Even so, I’d still expect Manuel Pellegrini to name
quite a strong team here, with just a bit of rotation from Thursday.
They’ve been more impressive than Atletico Madrid
over the past few months, but Diego Simeone’s side
are still very tough to beat at home.
Even with nothing to play,
the Atleti boss is still naming strong lineups,
and trying to develop a system that might come
in handy next season.
The Alexander Sorloth and Julian Alvarez partnership
hasn’t quite clicked yet though, and I can see this being
quite a close game, with both sides creating opportunities
and having spells of dominance.
